Which Great Places Could I Go To As A Backpacker?
Backpacking has always piqued my interest. It is more interesting than the normal vacations that people take. Think about it – as a backpacker, I find backpacking a lot easier to accomplish, and cheap holidays too. I do not have to deal with a lot of hassles at the airport because I only have my backpack and I even get to carry this onto the plane! There’s no need for you to wait in long lines at the conveyor belt as you don’t have any checked in luggages.Backpacking has always been something that I do on a holiday. When going backpacking, you don’t have to bring a lot of suitcases with you, you will only have your backpack. Because I do not have a lot of baggage on me, I do not have to pay a lot for luggage. With only a backpack with you, there is no need for you to wait in long lines at the conveyor belt.

The Shire or Hobbiton of Lord of the Rings
It’s something undeniable. I am a big Lord of the Rings enthusiast. When I knew that Hobbiton was constructed and shot in Auckland, I knew that was where I had to go next. This is the a good reason I chose to be in Auckland this year. We all know that the authorities of New Zealand had preserved the set as a tourist attraction, and perhaps also for locals to be reminded of that one time a blockbuster was shot in their vicinity.I have not hidden the fact from anyone else. I’m talking about the fact that I am the biggest fan of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Anyway, I found out a couple of years ago that Auckland is the location for the Shire or the home of the Hobbits in the movie. I wasted no time making a decision that I am going to visit the city one day. The movie set has been preserved with the objective of being a tourist attraction.
They named Hobbiton as the greenest movie set in the world, and indeed it lives up to the promise. What you see in the movie is what you get when you visit. I was dealt with to exactly what I saw in the movie – minus real Hobbits, of course. I went and visited Bilbo Baggins’ Bag End home and laid my eyes on the huge Party Tree. The entire tour was guided, of course and got a free souvenir in the end too!
Auckland Botanic Gardens
Hobbiton made me want to see “all that was good and green in the world,” as Samwise Gamgee told Frodo Baggins at the mountains of Mount Doom, for my second day in Auckland. Chance had it that there was a botanic garden in Auckland. This Garden, the Auckland Botanic Gardens, is only 20 minutes away from the centre of the city and presents another opportunity for a soothing day. The workers there were friendly. They even offered to have a tour guide for me, but I turned down as do not want to pay additional charges.
This is a good place to relax and learn more about plants. If you are going to be taking kids along, you will be delighted to know that they have what they call the Potter Children’s Garden. This is where you can take your child and have them learn about flower adaptation. You can leave them under the attentive eyes of a caretaker if you want while you go around and see the types being taken care of by the Garden.
Day Three was not that eventful as I decided to rest and stay only in my hostel for the entirety of the day. I did meet some fellow backpackers and chatted a bit with them, but the rest of my third day was not exciting – by choice, of course.
These are only two of the places that you could visit in Auckland, of course. Making your reservation for cheap holidays in January 2013 to Auckland is a good idea if you want to know more than what I could tell you about this wonderful city in New Zealand.
